Tribal Merchant is a UK-based, family-run rug business focused on Afghan rugs, tribal carpets, kilims and hand-knotted floor pieces. Our online store brings together textiles with different patterns, textures and histories, helping customers choose an individual piece for their home.
Our collection
Our collection includes Afghan Turkmen rugs, Baluch pieces, Qalai-Naw kilims, runners and other woven textiles. Designs can range from repeating geometric forms to pictorial patterns and individual vintage pieces. Wool is central to many pieces in the collection, including rugs made with handspun wool. Materials and foundations can vary. We describe each item through its own photographs and product information so you can check its dimensions, construction, materials and stated condition before buying.
Afghan weaving and individual character
The Afghan pieces in our collection draw on hand-knotting and weaving traditions practiced by skilled families and communities in Afghanistan. The work involved produces differences in texture, weave and pattern that can make individual textiles distinctive.
We want customers to appreciate those characteristics while having clear expectations. Handmade character does not mean that every item has the same composition, age, condition or dye process. We accept returns of defective and non-defective items in new or slightly used condition within 60 days from delivery. Postal returns use a free downloadable and printable label, with no restocking fee.
